Getting Started

You don't need a race car! Any well-maintained car suitable for spirited driving will work. We recommend avoiding trucks and SUVs due to their weight and braking characteristics. Your car should have good brakes, adequate tire tread, and pass our tech inspection requirements.

No! Our Novice Instructed group is specifically designed for first-timers. You'll receive classroom instruction and have a certified instructor in your car coaching you in real-time throughout the event.

An SA2015 or newer Snell-rated helmet is required. Motorcycle helmets (M-rated) and DOT-only helmets are not acceptable. If you don't have one, we offer helmet rentals at events.

No membership is required! Anyone can register for any event. The Track Pass membership is completely optional and provides a 10% discount for those who attend multiple events.

Registration & Pricing

Browse our Events page, select the event you want to attend, and click 'Register'. You'll be directed to ClubRegistration.net where you can complete your registration and payment.

Your registration includes track time throughout the day (typically 5-6 sessions), access to all facilities, and for novices, classroom instruction. Instructor fees are additional for the Novice Instructed group.

More than 14 days before: full credit or refund minus 5% processing fee. 8-14 days before: $125 cancellation fee or full credit. Less than 7 days: no refunds or credits.

Yes! Co-drivers can share your car and track time for an additional fee. Both drivers must meet all requirements and complete registration separately.

On Track

That's entirely up to you and your comfort level. HPDE is not racing—it's driver education. Your instructor will help you gradually increase your pace as your skills improve. There's no pressure to go faster than you're comfortable.

We have safety crews stationed around the track. If you have a mechanical issue, safely pull off track and they'll assist you. Our paddock often has experienced mechanics and fellow drivers who may be able to help with minor issues.

Run groups are based on your verified HPDE experience. We take classification seriously for safety reasons. Even experienced street drivers start in the Novice group if they haven't had certified in-car instruction at an HPDE event.

Yes, but it varies by run group. Novice and Intermediate 1 groups pass only on straights with a point-by. Intermediate 2 can pass anywhere with a point-by. Advanced has open passing. Safety is always the priority.

Safety & Insurance

HPDE is one of the safest forms of motorsport. Just Track It has hosted 155+ events with an impeccable safety record. Our strict requirements, certified instructors, and controlled environment make it much safer than spirited driving on public roads.

Most standard auto policies exclude track driving. We recommend purchasing track day insurance through our partner Traction, which offers coverage by the day, event, or annually.

At minimum, an SA2015 or newer Snell-rated helmet. Your car must pass tech inspection (brakes, tires, fluids, secure battery, no leaks). Convertibles require rollover protection. See our full Requirements page for details.
