Roebling Road Raceway is a fast, flowing 2.02-mile road course tucked into the Georgia lowcountry just outside Savannah. With generous runoff and a layout that rewards smooth inputs and patience, it’s a standout venue for first-time track drivers—while still challenging experienced drivers with high-commitment corners and long-duration load on the left-front tire.
Non-spectator facility: Roebling Road is not a “show up and watch” track. You must be with a hosting group (participant/crew/guest) to gain entry, except for special community days listed on the track calendar.

How to Use This Guide
This guide answers the “what do I do next?” questions before and during your first Just Track It weekend at Roebling. Use it in three passes:
- Before you leave home: Use the checklists to pack and avoid rookie failures (battery, numbers, loose items, fluids).
- At the track: Use the arrival flow and compliance sections to get through gate/registration/tech without drama.
- On track: Use the layout section for orientation, but treat the drivers’ meeting as the final authority on passing zones, flags, and the day’s layout (main vs. chicane).
Rule Hierarchy
When something conflicts, follow this order:
- Track management and posted track rules (including local ordinance)
- Just Track It supplemental regulations (JTI’s written rules for that weekend)
- Drivers’ meeting / chief instructor / control directives (what you are told that morning)
- This guide (best practices and “how it usually works”)
If you ever feel uncertain: ask grid staff, pit-out, or an instructor before you roll.
Just Track It Event Format
Run Groups
Just Track It operates five run groups based on experience level:
| Run Group | Description | Passing Rules |
|---|---|---|
| Novice Instructed | First-timers with mandatory in-car instruction | Straights only with point-by |
| Novice Solo | Signed-off novices driving without instructor | Straights only with point-by |
| Intermediate 1 | Developing drivers building consistency | Designated zones with point-by |
| Intermediate 2 | Experienced intermediate drivers | Anywhere on track with point-by |
| Advanced | Highly experienced drivers | Anywhere on track with point-by |
Novice Instructed and Novice Solo share the same on-track sessions. Intermediate 2 and Advanced share passing rules (anywhere with a point-by).
Novice Instruction Program
Novice instruction is mandatory until you are signed off by an instructor to drive solo. Your instructor rides in the passenger seat, providing real-time coaching on braking points, turn-in references, and throttle application. You will not be sent onto the track alone until an instructor certifies you are ready.
Roebling’s flowing layout and sustained cornering make it excellent for learning smooth inputs and patience—skills your instructor will emphasize.
Session Format
Standard JTI sessions run 20 minutes with five sessions per run group throughout the day. The last two sessions of the day extend to 30 minutes with combined groups (Novice Instructed + Novice Solo together; Intermediate 1 + Intermediate 2 together; Advanced may combine with I2).
Membership
Just Track It annual membership is offered but not required to participate in events. Registration occurs through MotorsportReg.
Passing Protocol
- The slower car gives the point-by signal by extending their left arm out the window, pointing toward the passing side.
- Stay on the racing line and lift slightly off the throttle.
- Blocking is strictly prohibited. Give point-bys early; don’t “teach lessons” to faster traffic behind you.
Arrival Flow
A clean first-time flow at Roebling:
- Arrive via GA-17 → Roebling Road (NOT Zeigler/Ziegler Road if towing—see Directions section).
- Gate: Sign waiver(s) → receive wristband(s) → pay any track fees (power/camping/garage if applicable).
- Paddock: Pick a spot → unload → set up canopy/tools → apply car numbers.
- Registration: Driver credentials, schedule, run group assignment, classroom location (if novice).
- Tech Inspection: Present car, helmet, and completed tech form at tech pavilion/garage area.
- Drivers’ Meeting: Mandatory attendance → confirm passing zones, flags, black-flag procedure, and whether chicane is in use.
- Grid for Session 1: Arrive early → listen to grid workers → go out calm.

Track Layout and Corner Analysis
Roebling is a 2.02-mile course with 9 corners on the main layout. Some events run an alternate layout with a chicane (commonly described as 12 corners total). Your drivers’ meeting will confirm which layout is in use.
The track is known for sustained cornering and tire wear—especially left-front wear. The surface is generally smooth for a club track.
Turn-by-Turn Breakdown (Main Course)
Turn 1
A very fast, decreasing-radius right sweeper at the end of the long front straight. Prioritize a clean, stable entry. Avoid “hero braking” your first sessions.
Turn 2
A continuing right with a later apex than most first-timers expect. Vision and patience matter.
Turn 3
Fast left sweeper; commitment corner. Smooth hands, minimal scrub.
Turn 4 (“The Collector”)
Tighter right that catches impatience. Late apex and a settled car win here.
Turn 5
Slowest corner—near hairpin. Exit matters, especially in momentum cars. In wet conditions, standing water can collect here.
Turns 6-7 (Carousel Complex)
Linked right-hand sweepers with elevation change. Avoid early apexing; let the corner come to you and prioritize exit.
Turns 8-9
Two right sweepers that set up the long straight. Turn 9 is the one-wall corner—respect it and unwind the wheel before full throttle.
Common First-Timer Mistakes
- Early apexing (especially Turn 2, Turn 4, the 6/7 complex)
- Overdriving the out-lap (cold tires + cold brakes)
- Ignoring tire pressures until cords show up
- Not packing hydration and shade
First Session Playbook
- Out-lap: warm tires/brakes; build speed gradually
- Pick two goals: be smooth, hit consistent turn-in points
- Give point-bys early; don’t “teach lessons”
- Cool-down lap: breathe, review, pit safely
Track Surface and Conditions
Roebling is known for sustained cornering and tire wear. The surface is generally smooth for a club track, but conditions evolve.
Key Characteristics
- Tire management matters significantly
- Track can feel crowned/off-camber when you run wide
- In wet conditions, standing water appears in predictable areas (notably Turn 5 and portions of carousel complex)
Runoff Warning
Runoff exists, but don’t treat it as “free.” Some areas end in sand berms—avoid entering deep runoff at speed.
Left-Front Tire Stress
The layout creates sustained left-front loading. Monitor this tire closely throughout the day. Consider rotation mid-day for extended events.
Sound Compliance
Decibel Limits
Published sound limits are typically 103 dB, with a 104 dB vintage allowance for some events. Track rules also reference ~103.9 dB.
Enforcement Pattern
- Sound meter typically positioned driver’s left just past start/finish
- Two readings over → flagged in and must correct before re-entering
Mitigation Tactics
- Angle exhaust toward driver’s right (where possible)
- Lift slightly at sound station
- Run near other cars when passing meter
Quiet Hours
- 8:00 PM – 8:00 AM daily — no race engines or loud vehicles
- Sunday 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM — commonly enforced with fine
- Additional rules may require all noise to cease by 9:00 PM weekdays, 10:00 PM weekends
Tech Inspection
Before the Event
Many organizations require pre-event inspection by a qualified mechanic. Download JTI’s form, have it signed, and bring it.
Day-Of Inspection
Tech is typically near garages/grid area. Inspectors check:
- Tires (condition, cords, leaks, adequate tread)
- Brakes (pad thickness, fluid, leaks, pedal feel)
- Battery securement and terminal coverage
- Seat belts/harnesses and seats properly mounted
- No fluid leaks
- Loose items removed
- Helmet compliance (Snell/FIA requirement)
Common Failures
- Expired helmet standard
- Unsecured battery
- Low brake pads or old fluid
- Loose items in cabin
- Missing/undersized numbers
- Fluid leaks
- Questionable harness geometry/installation
Safety Equipment Requirements
Helmet Standards
Requirements vary by event. Many car events require Snell SA helmets and do not accept motorcycle “M” ratings. Confirm the currently accepted JTI helmet standard in your event confirmation and during on-site tech inspection.
Required Driver Attire
- Long sleeves and long pants (natural fibers preferred)
- Closed-toe shoes with thin, grippy soles
- Gloves (optional but helpful)
- Head-and-neck restraint (often mandatory with multi-point harness; recommended regardless)
Facility rule: Open-toed shoes are not allowed in hot areas (grid, pit lane, corner stations).
Vehicle Requirements
Conservative baseline:
- Seat belts in good condition (or properly installed harness)
- Working brake lights
- Secure battery, covered terminals
- Fresh brake fluid (DOT 4 commonly recommended)
- Adequate brake pads (50%+ recommended)
- Tires appropriate for track use; no cords, bubbles, sketchy repairs
- Wheels torqued to spec
- No fluid leaks
- Cabin cleared of loose items (including floor mats)
Convertibles
Rules vary by organizer. Many require factory rollover protection and/or approved roll bar meeting “broomstick rule.” If using 5/6-point harness, you generally need approved seat and rollover protection.
Fire Extinguisher
Just Track It does not mandate fire extinguishers. However, track rules commonly require at least one portable dry chemical fire extinguisher, minimum rating 10-ABC, visible and in good working condition in your pit/paddock area.
Paddock and Facilities
Paddock Layout
- Large infield area with mix of grass and paved lanes.
- Shade spots near early turns are prized.
- Registration, tech, and information centered near tech pavilion/garage/grid area.
Newcomer Paddock Strategy
- Arrive early for shade
- Choose higher ground if rain possible (low spots can flood)
- Keep paddock roads clear (fire code / emergency access)
- Manage cords and hoses to prevent trip hazards
Restrooms and Showers
Two permanent restroom facilities with hot showers:
- Near Turn 5
- Behind concession stand
Garages
Open-air garages available for rental (limited quantity):
- $60/day (single-day)
- $40/day per day (multi-day)
Each garage typically includes 110v power; power in adjacent spaces usually separate fee.
Electrical Hookups
Hookups include 110v and 30/50-amp options. Pay at gate and display sticker on cord.
On-Site Fuel
Commonly available:
- 98 unleaded and 110 leaded in 5-gallon pails
Payment often credit card friendly; some events card-only. Verify before arriving.
Nearby Pump Gas
Pump gas readily available in Pooler and along major routes. Plan fuel runs during cold-track windows if leaving paddock.
Waste Fluids
Track provides multiple waste stations (oil, fuel, coolant; brake fluid at fuel station). Don’t cross-contaminate—significant fines for contamination.
Tire Services
No permanent tire shop on-site. Vendors often attend events—arrange in advance if you need mounting/balancing at track.
Safety Services
During events, facility commonly staffs EMS and fire support. Do not assume you can run vehicles on track without official event operations and safety services present.
Camping and Overnight Policies
Gate Hours
Gate hours determined by hosting group. Don’t assume 24/7 access; check confirmation email and supplemental regs.
Camping Fees (Track FAQ Examples)
| Type | Price |
|---|---|
| Motorhome/trailer with 30/50-amp power | $25/night |
| 110v | $10/day per cord (sticker required) |
| Tent camping | $10/day |
| Motorcycles (tire warmers) | $10/day per cord (1 set per cord) |
Important Limits
- No dump station on property
- Not all campsites have water
- Power availability not guaranteed; generator often recommended
- Campfires/ground fires not allowed
Track Crossing
The practical exit path may require controlled track crossing. Expect constraints—plan errands around schedule windows.
Weather Considerations
Climate Overview
Expect humid subtropical conditions: heat, humidity, and sudden storms in summer; mild winters; occasional morning fog.
Best Periods
Spring and fall are typically the sweet spot: moderate temperatures and lower humidity.
Summer Realities (June-August)
- Heat stress is real: hydrate aggressively
- Bring shade (EZ-up), sunscreen, and cooling plan
- Watch coolant temps; allow cool-down laps
- Bug spray essential (lowcountry is lowcountry)
Morning Fog and Dew
If temperature and dew point converge, track can be slick early even without rain. Treat Session 1 as reconnaissance.
Hotels and Lodging
Practical Lodging Approach
- Start with track’s hotel information page: roeblingroad.com/roebling-road-raceway-hotel-information.html
- Confirm code/rate on phone before arriving
Lodging Buckets
| Use Case | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Closest / simplest | Pooler or airport-area hotels (quick commute, easy parking) |
| Best “experience” off track | Savannah Historic District (more nightlife/food, longer commute) |
| Trailer-friendly | Prioritize large lots; confirm trailer parking in writing |
Food and Supplies
On-Site Dining
Many event weekends run a concession stand for breakfast/lunch hours. Don’t assume it will be open—pack snacks.
Nearby Essentials
Pooler has grocery, big-box stores, and chain restaurants. Auto parts stores can save a weekend for common issues (battery, fluids, hand tools).
